History of Religions

BA programme

Main fields of study

The world's religions in their historical and social context. The theory and methodology of the subject are shared by other disciplines - such as anthropology, sociology, phenomenology, linguistics and archaeology etc. More theoretical aspects of the study of religion are also basic elements of the curriculum.

Language(s) of instruction

Primarily Danish.

Access requirements

The student must have proficiency in a foreign language that is not one of the following: Norwegian, Swedish, English, German and French.

Programme requirements

The intention is to give the students broad, research-based knowledge of the field which, apart from the specific religions, covers questions of specific relevance to the study of religion and various methodological problems. The BA is comprised of 9 core modules

Professional status

The BA in the History of Religions qualifies the candidate for positions which require basic academic skills. The BA also qualifies for further studies at MA level.

MA programme

Main fields of study

The student chooses one of the following areas of specialization: The History of Religions, The Sociology of Religion or The History of Christianity. Each area encompasses a wide range of subjects and perspectives.

Primarily Danish.

Access requirements

A BA in the History of Religions.

Programme requirements

All the MA programmes aim at providing the student with a high level of competence in research-based sociological and historical studies of the world’s religions. The MA programmes consist of 6 core modules with a 100-page thesis (30 ECTS) as the concluding element.

Professional status

The MA programmes aim at qualifying the student for jobs in teaching and in the private sector. The candidates, consequently, work in many different fields. A few pursue a university career while the majority either teach in gymnasium/high school or work in private companies.
