Persian Studies
BA programme
Main Fields of Study
Persian language, cultural history and Persian literature.
Language(s) of instruction
Primarily Danish. Some courses have been taught in English. Some
language courses have been taught in Persian. The examinations have
been conducted in Danish except for one that has been conducted in
Persian. The curriculum has been in Danish, English, German, French
& Persian.
Access requirements
The applicant with no proficiency in Persian must complete an introductory language course worth 30 ECTS.
Programme requirements
Upon completion of the Bachelor of Arts in Persian Studies the student has acquired:
- broad research-based knowledge of Persian culture and language;
- good skills in spoken and written Persian;
- knowledge of Iran’s history;
- the ability to work on projects using source material written in Persian;
- the ability to complete independent projects;

general academic skills.
Professional status
The BA in Persian Studies qualifies the candidate for further studies as well as for undergraduate teaching in various educational institutions. It likewise qualifies the candidate for administrative positions or other positions requiring medium cycle research based qualifications, and where these qualifications will be preferable.
MA programme
Main Fields of Study
Students focus either on language and literary subjects or subjects within the social sciences.
Compulsory language and literature courses: 1) History of the
Persian Language; 2) Modern Persian: phonetics, morphology, and syntax;
3) Classical Literature.
Compulsory social science courses: 1) History of Middle Eastern
Research; 2) The Middle East’s Modern History and Relations; 3)
Economics and Political Systems of the Middle East.
Each subject is worth 15 ECTS, the Master’s thesis 30 ECTS

may have been conducted in Persian. The curriculum has been in Danish,
English, German, French and Persian.

A BA in Persian Studies.
Programme requirements
Upon completion of the Master of Arts in Persian Studies the candidate has acquired:
- academic skills based on the ability to work independently on projects using source material written in Persian;
- familiarity with the research traditions of linguistics and literary studies or social sciences;
- the ability to approach scientific methodology and theory critically;
- analytical skills.
The candidate must in his or her thesis show an ability to apply the
scientific methods and theories related to a specific subject and
clearly communicate the ideas and results of the thesis. The thesis
should be between 60-100 pages, not counting notes and bibliography,
and include source material in Persian.
Professional status
An MA in Persian Studies qualifies the candidate for positions where
general academic skills are required. It also qualifies the candidate
for teaching and research within the candidate’s area of study, as well
as other positions where the specific qualifications within the
candidate’s area of study are required or preferred.
