Gender and Culture

Three days, consisting of seminars, lectures, workshops, PhD-project presentations, and roundtable discussions.

The course will describe, discuss, and explain the role of gender as relevant to different cultural studies.

The aim of the course is to foster a consciousness about gender as a factor in academic research at multiple levels and to qualify the PhD-students through knowledge, understanding and skills within the field of “gender and culture”, its research history, methods and theories.

Content  The course focuses on developments within the research history in gender studies. It will discuss differences and similarities between theoretical approaches (e.g. de-/constructivism, postcolonialism, masculinity studies, theological feminism, queer studies) within the field of gender studies. Furthermore, it discusses seminal text by influential thinkers of gender studies and central concepts within the field (e.g. alterity, performativity, intersectionality and many more).

Target group/participants  The course is relevant to PhD-students in general working within empirical fields and on subjects where genderis a factor.

The form of the course  Three days, consisting of seminars, lectures, workshops, PhD-project presentations, and roundtable discussions.

Language  The course language will be English.
