Fieldwork seminar: Fieldwork and Media Studies. Materials, Research Questions and Access to the Field

Abstract

I am working with a new Arab satellite news channel and most of my empirical material will be TV-programs. I will soon return to Beirut and conduct interviews in order to complement the analysis of programs. Trying to design a road map for the fieldwork , several questions have come to my mind:

• * How to open up a field?
• * How to set up appointments and develop contacts in a hierarchical environment?
• * How to get access to various corners of the field?
• * How to maneuver in a highly political field?
• * How to relate to the security situation in Lebanon?

ECTS: 1,8 for paper presentation and 0,3 for active participation.
