Writing-up Seminar with Benedikte Møller Kristensen

Belonging to the taiga or belonging to the nation-state: shamanism, power and sovereignty among the Duha reindeer-nomads of northern Mongolia.

Benedikte Møller Kristensen

The paper is a draft to a chapter in my thesis, where I discuss: how the homeland of the Duha may be perceived as a kind of “localized sovereignty” within the Mongolian state; whose shamanic powers somehow enable the Duha to circumvent national law but simultaneously seem to trap them in a position as lawless and criminals – and deprive them of their legal status and rights, within the Mongolia state.

Please write directly to Benedikte who will distribute her paper to those who have signed up: bmk@hum.ku.dk

ECTS: 1.8 for paper presentation and 0.3 for active participation
