In her research project, Giada Dalla Bontà examines experimental sonic practices in the unofficial art circles of late Soviet Union and of today. Historically interrelating the dawn of USSR’s collapse and the current resurgence of independence movements across post-socialist nations, the project moves at the intersection of sound and art practices through cultural, relational and sensorial stances. Through several case studies, the cultural and political impacts of such practices is investigated by considering the several poetic nodes that emerge from them, fostering new identity configurations and transformative engagement strategies with memory and past traumas, cultivating alternative models of relational constellations and political envisioning. Ultimately, such analyses also contemplate how sonic fictions generated by corporeality and sonic experiences affect sociopolitical dynamics and relational models (sonic agency), even in contexts where unplugging from ideological dispositifs seems unimaginable.
