CANCELLED! A Great Unrecorded History: LGBTQ+ History and Heritage across World Cultures

Lecture by Professor Richard Bruce Parkinson (Oxford) -THE LECTURE HAS UNFORTUNATELY BEEN CANCELLED.

Abstract

LGBTQ desire and identity are embodied in human artefacts from all periods, from Ancient Egypt to works by living artists such as David Hockney.

The lecture will illustrate the gradual evolution of an LGBTQ world history project at the British Museum, including the groundbreaking book A Little Gay History (2013) and subsequent exhibitions and trails. It will discuss how LGBTQ histories are best displayed - as temporary interventions or as integrated parts of permanent displays - and consider the role of a historian in shaping this heritage, and in upholding rights.

Attendance is free but space is limited (150 seats).
