Beirut from ‘October Revolution’ of 2019 to the 4th August Explosion in 2020:

Transnational Solidarity, Social Media and Affect

Online seminar with Dr Maria M. Rijo Lopes da Cunha, Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Art as Forum, IKK, UCPH.

Students, researchers and the public are invited to the online seminar by the research project Mediatized Diaspora. Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies, University of Copenhagen.

This seminar examines the online media communication of Lebanese musicians over the timespan of a year covering the start of the Lebanese Revolution on 17 October 2019 through to October 2020, the aftermath of the devastating explosion on the port of the 4th of August of the same year. It argues that digital media communication platforms serve as carriers of a central affective dimension that intertwines the material, political, social, and sonic worlds that enable a new form of politics of solidarity to emerge from the interplay between online-offline worlds.  Digital media platforms are central in four main aspects.
