Innovation as a Research Perspective: from Knowledge to Impact – at ToRS

Workshop 1: Identifying Innovation Potential

The University of Copenhagen’s 2030 strategy sets a clear direction: we must “create more benefit for more people”. For ToRS, this means an invitation to define a specific humanistic concept of innovation grounded in the department’s many years of practice and impact. Innovation at ToRS is not about shifting focus away from core research, but about allowing an innovative perspective to shape our research questions, methods, and collaborations from the very beginning.

This programme, developed in collaboration with KU Lighthouse, is designed as a concentrated effort. The aim is to establish a common language for innovation and provide researchers with concrete tools to translate humanistic knowledge into change in the world. We see innovation as an integral part of research design that can open doors to new data sources, alternative outputs, and, not least, new funding opportunities.

This first workshop is a broad starting point for all interested researchers. Here, we explore the interface between research and innovation and examine how existing knowledge can address specific societal needs.

  • Content: Exercises in identifying “impact pockets” in one's own research and introduction to humanistic innovation pathways
  • Output: A preliminary clarification of project ideas and possible paths to value creation
