    One of the characteristics of Bollywood cinema is the many dance items. The Bollywood dance genre is made up from dance moves taken from Indian classical dances, certain folk dances such as Bhangra as well as what can be categorized as MTV-dance. First, this class will focus on the dance form itself and its connection to regional, national and international dance forms. Second, the significance of the dance items in relationship to the narrative of the movie will be explored, while focusing on themes related to gender, religion, modernity and globalization. Thirdly, there will be a discussion of the role of the dance items among people watching the movies attention will be given to the role of emotions. In the class, selected dance items will be shown, analyzed and discussed.
