Introducing ToRS Grant Lab
We have just finished the very first iteration of the ToRS Grant Lab concept. Drawing heavy inspiration from the UCPH Forward grant lab, we have created a recurring space where postdocs and other temporarily employed researchers can get feedback from senior scholars on early grant ideas or draft applications. Grant labs are open to all temporarily employed scholars from across all departments at ToRS and early career scholars working on application to be housed at ToRS.
The format is simple: monthly calendar invites, 1 1/2 hour per time, space for three feedback sessions. Each time, at least two senior scholars with experience getting grants and/or being on grant committees give feedback along with whoever else attends. No preparation, the person getting feedback instructs what they want feedback on, and we skim the relevant sections of a draft or give feedback on an oral presentation. The senior scholars participate on a rotating basis to keep the workload down.
The purpose is to support the development of concrete applications but also to create a safe space where early career scholars can develop a sense of the genre of grant writing and get inspired.
We hope this concept can inspire other departments. Feel free to copy and get in touch with Nina Grønlykke Mollerup (ninagm@hum.ku.dk) or Ida Hartmann (ida.hartmann@hum.ku.dk) if you want to know more.
